Taking Care of your Tank in a Power Outage

Fish Tank Survival Guide for Power Outages ⚡🐠

Storm incoming? Keep your fish safe with these quick tips!

1️⃣ Oxygen Matters – Use a battery air pump or manually aerate by scooping and pouring water. Avoid feeding to reduce oxygen use.
2️⃣ Temperature Control – Wrap the tank in blankets to keep heat in; use warm water bottles if needed. In hot weather, float ice packs. ❄️🔥
3️⃣ Water Quality – Limit feeding, do small (10-20%) water changes if the outage lasts over a day, and use a battery-powered filter if available.
4️⃣ Be Prepared – Keep backup pumps, batteries, and a thermometer handy. A generator or UPS can help in frequent outages. 🛠️🔋
5️⃣ Watch for Stress – If fish gasp at the surface or act strangely, increase aeration and check water quality.

Planning ahead ensures your fish stay happy and healthy—storm or shine! 🌊🐟

KOI FEVER IS REAL! 🐟✨

Koi aren’t just fish—they’re the VIPs of the pond, full of personality & judgmental stares. Here’s how to keep them happy!

Koi Care Basics
🏡 Pond: 3+ ft deep, 1,000+ gallons, strong filtration, pH 7.0-8.5. 🌡️ Temp: 59-77°F (15-25°C). Too cold? Use a heater.👯 Friends: No aggressive fish—Koi hate drama.

Seasonal Care
🌱 Spring: More food, parasite watch.☀️ Summer: Provide shade—sunburn isn’t cute. 🍂 Fall: Reduce feeding. ❄️ Winter: Keep a hole in the ice for oxygen.

Feeding:
🥗 Menu: Pellets, live food, veggies. 📆 Schedule:
• 70°F+ – 2-3x/day (they’ll beg); 50-70°F – 1x/day (they’ll judge); below 50°F – Barely feed (hibernation mode).⚠️ Overfeeding = Dirty pond + Sad Koi.

Common Koi Issues & Fixes
⚪ Ich (White Spots) → Heat + meds.🩸 Fin Rot → Clean water + meds.🌲 Dropsy (Swollen Body) → Isolate & treat. 🛑 Ulcers → Antibiotics + clean water. 🕯️ Koi Pox → No cure, but good care helps.

Final Thoughts: Happy Koi = Clean water, good food, and silent judgment.

Opāe ula shrimp

If you haven't experienced low-maintenance, kid-friendly freshwater shrimp that are fun to watch, you need to meet the Opāe ula shrimp! 🦐😊 Known as the red beauties of Hawaii, they thrive in brackish water and make the perfect pet for kids. They can help set up the tank, monitor the water like little scientists, and feed them a tiny pinch of food—basically, it’s the perfect “pet” without the drama! 🧑‍🔬💧
These shrimp love algae and biofilm, need a small tank (1-5 gallons), and can live up to 20 years with proper care. 🌱✨ For a self-sustaining setup, use lava rock, coral sand, and some macroalgae. 🌿💡 They’re peaceful, won’t eat your homework, and definitely won’t try to escape the tank. 🏝️✨
