Caring for your tank in a power outage

Taking care of your fish tank during a power outage is crucial to ensure the health and safety of your fish. Here are some essential tips:
1. Maintain Oxygen Levels
• Manual Aeration: Use a battery-operated air pump to keep oxygen flowing. If unavailable, periodically stir the water or scoop it with a cup and pour it back in to increase oxygenation.
o Recommended Air Pump Output (LPM - Liters Per Minute)
o 10-20 gallons → 0.5 - 1.0 LPM
o 20-40 gallons → 1.0 - 2.0 LPM
o 40-75 gallons → 2.0 - 3.5 LPM
o 75-100+ gallons → 3.5+ LPM or multiple pumps
o For heavily stocked tanks, opt for a pump with slightly higher output. Some high-quality battery air pumps (like the USB-rechargeable or D-cell battery models) can run multiple air-stones or sponge filters at once.
o Top Fin® makes an excellent battery-operated air filter. It comes with the pump, tubbing and air stone. For less than $20 it will support a tank up to 30 gallons. I run...(click on the image for more).
